LICENSING
California has a strict law that prohibits using an unlicensed contractor. Licensing can range from simple registration to a detailed qualification process. This includes verifying that the contractor is licensed by checking their license and photo identification to verify that the person with the license is the person who shows up for the quote. Additionally, verify if a license is current by visiting the Contractors State License Board’s website. This website will also verify if the contractor is in good standing.
INSURANCE
Always ask for copies of insurance certificates and make sure they are current, or you could be held liable for any injuries and damages that occur during the project. Contractors should have ALL of the following:
- Personal Liability
- Workers Compensation
- Property Damage Coverage
Licensed contractors have gained experience and knowledge through the proper training and legal processes. They put in the time to obtain the appropriate licenses and permits from authorized government offices, after passing the license test.

- If you hire an unlicensed contractor the law states you can never take them to court. Be smart hire a licensed contractor.
